چکیده

Eller, Charles (St. John's University, Jamaica, N.Y.), and William H. Beckert. Nitrogen dioxide fixation in bacterial chromatin studies. J. Bacteriol. 90:1710-1712. 1965.-Satisfactory chromatin staining was obtained with two Bacillus species when nitrogen dioxide was used for fixation in conjunction with either the acid Giemsa or Feulgen staining methods. An impression method was employed for the transfer of bacilli to a new environment as well as for smears. Advantages of nitrogen dioxide fixation are discussed.

Nitrogen fixation in microbial biotechnology

This review provides a good overview of biological nitrogen fixation in the growth of leguminous plants, particularly relating to fertilizer needs for crops. In addition to plants that form nodules that host nitrogen-fixing bacteria, other bacteria form different associations with plants, and this is currently under intense study to determine if there is significant nitrogen transfer to the pla...

Phosphoribulokinase mediates nitrogenase-induced carbon dioxide fixation gene repression in Rhodobacter sphaeroides

In many organisms there is a balance between carbon and nitrogen metabolism. These observations extend to the nitrogen-fixing, nonsulfur purple bacteria, which have the classic family of P(II) regulators that coordinate signals of carbon and nitrogen status to regulate nitrogen metabolism. Curiously, these organisms also possess a reverse mechanism to regulate carbon metabolism based on cellula...

Irreversibly increased nitrogen fixation in Trichodesmium experimentally adapted to elevated carbon dioxide

Nitrogen fixation rates of the globally distributed, biogeochemically important marine cyanobacterium Trichodesmium increase under high carbon dioxide (CO2) levels in short-term studies due to physiological plasticity. However, its long-term adaptive responses to ongoing anthropogenic CO2 increases are unknown. Here we show that experimental evolution under extended selection at projected futur...

Relationship between Nitrogen Fixation and Carbon Metabousm in Legumes: a Review

The process of nitrogen fIXation by the legumes imposes carbon (C) energy burden on the plant. The photosynthate translocated from the leaves provides carbon skeleton, reducing power and energy required for the symbiotic nitrogen fIXation. Sucrose from the shoot is converted to organic acids, principally dicarboxylates that are supplied to bacteroids to provide reductant for the support of key ...

Molecular genetics of Thiobacillus ferrooxidans.

Thiobacillus ferrooxidans is a gram-negative, highly acidophilic (pH 1.5 to 2.0), autotrophic bacterium that obtains its energy through the oxidation of ferrous iron or reduced inorganic sulfur compounds. It is usually dominant in the mixed bacterial populations that are used industrially for the extraction of metals such as copper and uranium from their ores. More recently, these bacterial con...
